The abroad disease

The entrepreneur insured in Poland, which during the abroad residence will be sick and will receive the sickness leave, is required to deliver this certificate to ZUS within 7 days.
Each foreign certificate should include a start and end date of incapability to work, as well as the name of foreign medical institution and name and surname of the doctor that will sign the sickness leave, also his/ her signature with the date. If the foreign sickness leave was issued in European Union , the State Parties to the International agreements in the field of social security, of which a Poland is a party (Ukraine, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina), as well as the EFTA countries (Norway, Lichtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland), it does not have to be translated into Polish.
The each branch of Social Insurance Institution can ask foreign institution to control Polish entrepreneur which is incapable to work. If he/ she does not submit the required formalities, it has to take into account the opportunity to refuse to pay the benefits. In such situations, the main decision is always on the side of Polish institution.
